I have been thinking about the same product pattern all month. Here are three ideas for Trade Republic App.
Every weekend I do my stock research. By Wednesday, I have forgotten what I decided to buy or sell!!
I own a portfolio of individual stocks and derivatives on Trade Republic. My ritual is to study the charts on Saturday and Sunday, and set price alerts. Then midweek, in the middle of a work meeting, the alert fires: "VW: €95.20".
That's the moment my brain has to fully reload. Was I planning to buy VW at €95 or was that the stop loss on a short via a knockout I already hold? By the time my meeting ends, and I open my notes, either the price has moved, or the moment is gone.
Let price alerts carry the intent
It will be good to have three alert types on top of the existing mechanism:
🟢 Buy Alert — "VW reached €95 — buy trigger"
🔴 Sell / Short Alert — "BMW reached €110 — short entry"
⚠️ Stop-Loss Alert — "Bayer hit €42 — SL triggered"
You label the alert at creation. The notification carries the label. The existing pricing pipeline does 95% of the work already!!
Revenue Generation for TradeRepublic: Daily resolution alerts stay free (covers the vast majority of retail investors). Minute and hour level alerts genuinely useful for active or High Frequency Traders sit behind a small premium tier. A clean revenue line without touching the free for all promise.
A learning layer built for the people Investing and Trading on Trade Republic.
Trade Republic offers around 380,000 derivatives knockouts, warrants, factor certificates. Ask ten retail users what a "knockout barrier" does, or how leverage on a warrant amplifies both gains and losses, and you will get four confident wrong answers. Short, plain language modules one concept each, illustrated, multilingual, one tap from the instrument screen. The Learning Layer also explains Techincal and Fundamental Analysis for people to learn and start investing. I am sure this feature will attract a lot of new investors and traders if marketed properly.. It's a retention play dressed as an education play with room for an advanced paid track (technical analysis, options fundamentals) that engaged retail investors will happily pay for.
Open, well documented APIs for derivatives pricing.
Warrant and knockout pricing is opaque to retail users, and the tools that exist today (issuer-specific calculators from HSBC, Vontobel, SocGen, UBS) are fragmented across four different websites.
A clean, consented Trade Republic API : pricing data, position data would let a small independent developer community build the tools Trade Republic doesn't need to build itself: pricing calculators, back testing tools for algorithmic retail strategies. Every third party tool built on top of you raises the customer's switching cost. A idea that compounds...
The pattern connecting all three: each idea respects the user's cognition. Alerts give them memory. The learning layer gives them comprehension. Open APIs give them tools their broker doesn't need to build itself.
There's a fourth idea I keep circling on around how to use AI for Trade Republic.. but that one deserves its own conversation!!
Christian Hecker , Thomas Pischke grateful for what you are building. Curious to hear how the team thinks about these ideas.
